An oversized T-shirt should give you deliberate room through the body and sleeves while remaining comfortable to move in. The right length depends on your height, torso and styling preference. There is no universal rule that every oversized tee must reach the same point on your legs.
Check the shoulder and sleeve shape
Some oversized cuts have dropped shoulders, where the seam sits beyond the natural shoulder. Others achieve extra volume through the body. Look at the whole shape rather than judging by the seam alone.
Lift your arms and reach forward. The fabric should not pull tightly across your back. Sleeves should feel roomy without getting in the way of what you are doing.
Decide where you want the hem
Try the tee with the trousers you expect to wear. A longer hem creates a different effect from a shorter, boxier shape. If it hides the waistband completely, decide whether you like that continuous silhouette or would prefer a small front tuck.
Check where the artwork sits before tucking. You may lose part of a graphic if its lower edge reaches the waistband.
Use a tee you already own as your reference
Lay a favourite T-shirt flat and smooth it without stretching. Measure its width under the arms and its length from a consistent top point to the hem. Compare with garment measurements taken using the same method.
Keep body measurements and garment measurements separate. A chest measurement around your body is not the same as a flat pit-to-pit width.

Frequently asked questions
Is oversized the same as too big?
No. An oversized cut can have intentionally wider sleeves and shoulders. A larger regular tee may simply become longer as well as wider.
Should an oversized tee cover my hips?
It can, but it does not have to. Choose the length you enjoy wearing and check it against your preferred trousers.
